Larkin Golf Club, originally named Fox Den Country Club, is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located in Statesville, North Carolina.
Larkin first opened for play in 1996. The course was designed by Clyde Johnston.
The greens average approximately 6,200-square feet in size and the pins are usually placed in tough locations. Six holes on the course are rolling and nine are more mountain style. A forty-foot wide creek runs through the course, and ponds dot the areas between holes. Water hazards come into play on eleven holes. The four finishing holes are cut out of the forest and very scenic. The most scenic hole, according to designer Clyde Johnston, is #15, a 395-yard, par 4, with a dogleg right fairway and three sand bunkers in the landing area. There are two green-side bunkers and a waterfall sits directly behind the green. There are 6.2 miles of cart paths, so walking the course is not recommended.
Gold tees: par-72, 7,005 yards, 72.5 / 137
Blue tees: par-72, 6,554 yards, 70.1 / 128
White tees: par-72, 6,003 yards, 67.6 / 116
Red tees: par-72, 5,300 yards, 67.8 / 113

WOW!! This is a trachk worth putting on your list of "Highway" golf stops. Located 7 mintues off I-77 is a best buy for the $26 spent on this under rated golf course. Elevation changes, rolling fairways with fair landing areas and fast true greens made it a challanging afternoon. I did have five, three putt greens because i didn't hit the green in the correct areas. Downfall is the lack of yardage markers and wondering if they were correct. Next time I'll bring the range finder. Houses are far enough back that they don't even feel like they're there. I normally play the tips, but @ 7,000 yds and 200+ to carry the fairway was too much for me.(Blue @ 6,500) Stand on #6 at the back tees and the words, WOW, Holy Sh__! will come out naturally. Looking forward to returning when everything is green and it looks more like the photos. Shot 41/38w/35 putts and will return.

I thought that the greens were to Fast. It didn't matter whether you were going up hill or down hill, they were just to fast. The course wasin good condition for the time of year.

Great daily fee course out in the country north of Charlotte NC. Great value (you can get discount coupons lots of places)and a very congenial and welcoming staff. Not overly difficult, this course offers a real challenge on most holes, playing as long as 7000 yards from the tips. Almost always in good condition, with fast sloping greens. Well worth the trip, especially in light of the more expensive and heavily played courses in Charlotte.

I love this course. Best public course in the area!
